Ich würde mal in die Konfigurationsdatei von cups schauen. Bei meinem Debian ist es die datei /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.
Da ist der Port einzutragen und auch von welchen Rechner eine Verbindung angenommen werden darf:

Dann würdfe ich mal den Runlevel konfigurieren und schauen ob nicht der alte Druckerdaemon lpd zusätzlich im Hintergrund läuft.
Hast du überhaupt cups, ghostscript und die richtigen Druckertreiber installiert ?
lpadmin kannst du nur als root aufrufen !
Mehr weiß ich aus der Ferne auch nicht.
PS: nickles hat ein paar Sonderzeichen aus meiner Kopie der Konfigurationsdatei automatisch gelöscht.
