Ich hatte vor Monaten schon einmal das Problem, das mein Suse 7.2 auf der Festplatte am 2. IDE-Port auf einmal nicht mehr startete. Damals dachte ich, es läge am Reiser-FS. Und hab alles neu installiert, mit ext2.
Ich habe Linux im Prinzip nur zum Ausprobieren installiert, und nutze fast nur Windows 98 auf der Platte am 1. IDE. Zum Spielen halt. Außerdem ist noch Windows 2000 auf der 1. Platte. Linux starte ich nur recht selten. Und jetzt startet es schon wieder nicht, weil es nicht root fs mounten kann. Beim Booten von Cd und der Option, eine vorhandene Installation zu starten, kommt dann die Fehlermeldung "fsck.ext2: Bad magic number in superblock while trying to open /dev/hdc6

The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock: e2fsck -b 8193
