Hallo Gemeinde,
leider bin ich zu sehr Mäuseschubser um ein 8.10er Ubuntu auf einer HP XW4600 ins Laufen zu kriegen. Die Festplatte wird erkannt, formatiert wird sie, die Installation läuft durch, aber nach dem Reboot krieg ich nur nen blinkenden Cursor zur sehen. Die live-CD funktioniert jedoch, damit sollten auch keine Probleme mit der Nvidia Quadro FX 370 die Ursache sein, oder?

Hast du eventuell die Alternate Version von Ubuntu installiert? Wenn ja, dann mußt du den XServer und den Gnome und/oder den KDE Desktop manuell mit aptitude nachinstallieren.
Für Notfälle kann man den "vesa" Treiber für die Grafikkarte nutzen. Wenn die Grafikkarte ein VESA kompatibles BIOS hat, dann kann dieser vesa Treiber mit Hilfe des VESA BIOS direkt in den Grafikspeicher schreiben.
Früher konnte man mit dem Befehl "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" den XServer manuell konfigurieren. Das ist leider nicht mehr möglich.
Am besten ist , du installierst den originalen NVidia Treiber wie es im Ubuntu Wiki erklärt wird.
Du kannst aber mal versuchen meine xorg.conf Datei von Debian etch an deine Ubuntu Version anzupassen:
